Copyediting:

This sentence-level edit checks your manuscript for errors in grammar, spelling and punctuation. I will also look out for awkward sentences and ambiguous phrases ensuring a comfortable read. 

Developmental Editing:

Shining a light in a completed draft of your book to solve big-picture issues. 


With a developmental edit, you will receive help with the foundations of your story: plot, characterisation, tension, pacing, narrative arc, point of view, etc. You will receive a hands-on approach to the text where I will make extensive comments and 

suggestions throughout your manuscript on how to resolve problems with the 

foundations to make your story satisfying. 


The comments and suggestions in the manuscript will be accompanied by an 

extensive report. Your developmental edit can also include rewrites should it need it. 


You will also receive a style sheet should you need it for further edits.


Manuscript Critique:

This will take the form of a written report, at least ten pages long. This report will offer guidance on the big-picture aspects of your book: plot, characterisation, tension, pacing, narrative arc, point of view, etc; will all be taken into consideration. 


A manuscript critique is less intense than a developmental edit, shining a light on what works and what needs work, and leaving you to decide how you would like to apply the suggestions offered. 

Pricing

All projects are different, needing different levels of attention, so please do get in touch so we can discuss your needs and base a quote on that.  I also offer a free sample edit for new clients of 500 to 1000 words, to give us both a chance to see if we work well together.


As a guide, I charge £30 an hour for copyediting and £35 an hour for developmental editing. I will provide a manuscript critique for £300.


Prices are based on CIEP guidance. 


If you’d like to mix edits, for example, a manuscript critique onto a developmental edit and maybe finish with a copyedit,  we can talk about a package deal.

Hello, I’m Marie and I’m based in the Southwest of England. I’m married to my husband Rob, and we have four boys together.


I’ve always been an avid reader and keen songwriter, so I’ve always had a love for words, which led me to completing a Bachelor’s Degree (Hons.) in English Literature and Creative Writing, and a Master’s Degree in Creative Writing, both with The Open University.


I’m a member of the CIEP (Chartered Institute for Editors and Proof-readers). I have completed CIEP Proofreading 1 Introduction, CIEP Copyediting 1 Introduction, and am currently studying CIEP Copyediting 2 (Headway). 


I’ve also written a novel of my own which is currently in the editing stages, and I’ve written many short stories. I know the importance of a well edited book and I want that for your stories too.
